LUKE 1 Introduction:
Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who from the first were eyewitnesses and servants of the word. With this in mind, since I myself have carefully investigated everything from the beginning, I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught.
- The birth of John the Baptist Foretold ~ Zechariah is told that his wife will bear a child in her old age, and they are to call him John.

Mary's Song
My soul glorifies the LORD and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me - holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things but has sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, remembering to be merciful to Abraham and his descendants forever, just as he promised our ancestors."
- John the Baptist is born
- Jesus is born
- Jesus is presented in the Temple and a man in Jerusalem called Simeon who was waiting for the consolation of Israel, and the Holy Spirit was on him took baby Jesus in his arms and praised God, saying: "Sovereign LORD, as you promised, you many now dismiss your servant in peace. For my eyes have seen your salvation, which you have prepared in the sight of all nations: a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel."

In my reading through the Bible beginning again this year, I am re-reading the New Testament. Have finished Matthew, Mark, and am through chapter 3 in Luke.
What have you been reading so far this new year of 2018? Thanks for sharing, and you're next for sharing a scripture blessing today. We Are Blessed Every Day!
~hugs 'n giggles 'n scribbles~
I've found myself, somehow, in Revelation. I always avoid it...the imagery makes me dizzy, but God has drawn me there of late.
ReplyDeleteI just finished the book of Matthew, reading it in my journaling Bible and doing some illustrating and handwriting in the wide margins. It's very meditative for me. Our small group is doing a study on the Sermon on the Mount that I am facilitating, so I will be studying in Matthew 5-7 for quite some time.
ReplyDeleteI love your photo today and those beautiful verses layered over it. Once again, it had me singing Handel's Messiah in my head! I'm reading through the Bible chronologically. In addition to my normal daily reading, I keep going back to reread the chapters about Joseph. He's such a prominent character in Genesis, as a quarter of the book is about him. We have so much to learn from the example of his life, and as we're continually reminded - the Lord was with him.
ReplyDeleteI am reading through the bible. I had wanted to read chronologically but the first plan I started (even thought it stated it was chronological) wasn't so...now I have two plans going and I hope to pick one by mid-February to use for the rest of the year.
ReplyDeleteSo I am reading Exodus and Genesis.
