If I understand this chapter right in 2 Corinthians Chapter 1:8-9, I'm thinking Paul is explaining to the Church followers in Greece that God allowed him to understand the severity of the situation in Asia, and allowed Paul to know that instead of trusting in his own instincts, it was best to rely on God. He also thanked them for their prayers. Go to God in prayer as he can deliver from death, and his powers are greater than ours. I'm never sure if I'm discerning the Old Testament right at all.
