My Bean Pot ~ Turned Flower Pot Misadventure

DSC_0181
I thought my son, DIL, and grandson would like this bean pot since they didn’t have one, and my son has always liked getting a Farmer’s Almanac ever since he was in grade school. It came with three small pots for the beans and/or soup. I decided it would be one of the gifts that I’d give them at Christmas time. Had it packed away all summer, and then when getting it out to wrap it, I broke the handle off (you can see it in the picture).

Summer came, and I had it ready for the trash man because I thought can’t give it to anyone that might use it and hold it with the fixed handle (I did glue it back on), and drop hot beans or soup on themselves.  But, just before actually deciding to trash it, decided it would make a unique flower pot. Not wanting to have an extra lid around or putting it in the landfill, I used my hot glue gun and attached it to rest on the unbroken handle. So far, my hens ‘n chickens are liking their new home.

Need a project to start your sewing hobby? Well, first if you haven’t sewn ever, the first step will be to buy a sewing machine. haha Just kidding you. Even if you’ve always sewn, this might be a fun and interesting project. I saw this on Curbly, and she had re-crafted it from Mary Ray’s tutorial on Craftstylish of how to take two cloth dinner napkins to make an apron. So naturally, I had to try it because it looked so easy, and I had been thinking I could use an apron since I’m rather sloppy when I cook. The only difference I did with mine was instead of making one big tuck on the front, I made two, and after I stitched down the middle to make two pockets, I stitched again twice to make four pockets.

I found my dinner napkins at a local thrift store.

Visit either the Curbly site or Craftstylish and they walk you through step by step how to sew your two dinner napkins together.

I had an extra napkin left over that I’m going to cut to size, tuck padding in between to make a hot pad. I also thought adding a spoon or other item might make a nice addition if giving the apron as a gift.

EASY PEASY NAME PURSE for the Grand-daughter

Latest in my need of a birthday present. Hard to pick something for teenagers so decided maybe she’d like something handmade. Followed the pattern for this purse with one adjustment. I used the printer cloth (printer sheets that you can pick up reasonably at Wal-Mart or any sewing center or hobby store) and my Adobe photo program to put her name along with some butterfly clipart and decided to incorporate it into the band at the top with ribbon trim. You can also use the transfer sheets is you are using a light fabric. I tried it on my purse first, but didn’t work out too well so not sure I had the right fabric so the printer cloth sheets worked best for me.

If you love to sew and want to make one, the pattern I used is Simplicity 2685.

I use to sew a lot, and the ones below were made to sell in my Etsy shop few years back.

These a a couple of my thrifting and sewing photos from years past. Just thought I'd share this Tuesday.

Hope alls week is going good. We have March winds and bit of snow to usher March out. Back to cold temps.

Razzy goes tomorrow for his Summer groom. Been long time and he really needs it. He's not going to be a happy camper but will look so much better. He doesn't have fur but has hair so seems he does need a bath more than usual. But he's a good boy so I can't hold that against him. He keeps me sane.  lol

Thanks for visiting.

Pictorial Tuesday Potpourri Link Up 3 15 2022

I have always been a garage sale or thrift shop type person. Not sure why, but I love finding things to upcycle or just amazed at finding things people throw out. Expensive items have been found in years past. I am noticing though that lately my favorite thrift stores don't have anything worthwhile. Mostly junk that people should have just tossed. I think they've begun to sell their good things on FB marketplace or maybe eBay. I use to do eBay, but now they want your checking info to pay you instead of being paid instantly by using PayPal. Maybe for IRS reasons. Not sure, but I am hesitant of giving them access to my checking. Not so much because I think they might use it, but who knows how secure.

Anyway, back to a couple things I did find recently.

This wasn't a thrift store find. I found out how to make napkins. This was from a photo that I printed onto napkin material. I'm going to mod podge it onto one of those wooden squares and add a saying. I am going to redo it though before crafting it because this was the first attempt, and I had to add ink to my printer and it smudged when it was processing the new ink cartridge.

I liked the design on this glass vase for $1.99, and was going to paint it, but after I cleaned it up I think I like it plain. So I added some of my fake flowers.

This vase was $1.99 too, and bought it to paint and distress.

This cute lamp with the shade was only $.99 cents. I thought it looked like a modern little lamp.

I thought I liked this globe and base when I bought it for $3.00, but pretty sure I'm going to get rid of it. Didn't like it so well after all.

A couple more below from last week's walk. The weather is turning warm again this week so may get to venture out again.

Have a happy week. Look forward to what you'll be sharing.

Pictorial Tuesday Link Up 2 2 2021

I don't remember if I have shared these before so if I did, I apologize. This is from 2019 at the Zoo about 50 minutes from where I live. The lights they display every Christmas season. I'd never gone before and neither had my older sister so our baby sister treated us because she had been several times. It was super cold, but the displays were amazing. Just sharing a few.

We're basically having our deepest snow this week so not really venturing out other than to walk Razzy. He's so short that the snow is up to his belly, and sticking to his paws. We don't stay out too long because he gets cold quickly.

Today, I'm scribbling about getting back to crafting and also digiscrapping as well as sharing photography. I made myself a chunky snowboarder hat using a crochet pattern (found at Marly Bird on YouTube) instead of knitting.

I took my label off though because didn't like it. May put a big crochet flower on it.

Treated myself to some flowers last week. Why? Just because it's been so dreary, and I'm missing the beautiful colors of Summer.

Latest digiscrapping kit is a Valentines Kit. Found a cute picture to insert, but any photo can be in used.  Kit will available free on my graphics site once I get it arranged.

Link up is open below for your sharings. Photography, Photo Art, and Crafting is welcome. No selling sites though. Thanks.

Pictorial Tuesday Link Up 8 20 19 with some Craftiness thrown in

Since, I really don't get that many photographers to my link up like in the past, I'm adding that people can also share their craftiness. Share the sewing, Cricut designs, or quilts and crafts you've been working on. I do request that you share photos of your crafty projects as well as your photography. (Family friendly always, and links not related to crafts or photography, I reserve the right to delete.)

Today's scribbling is about crafting: I'm back to sewing and projects to keep my mind busy on that ~ rather than sad things.

I really hadn't played around much with appliques, and I really liked this elephant material so decided to make a set of bibs, which I applied the elephant applique cut out to one of the bibs as well as adding to a purchased Onsie.  My other crafting project was adding a design using my Cricut to a Onsie.

I make purses and other things to sell on eBay and have sold on Etsy, and the Sunflower material is just one of my purses made recently. The smaller bag was just playing with the left over scraps to be given to a grand-daughter.

Below is the link up for sharing your photos or crafts. Only request is please keep it family friendly. Look forward to what you've been up to.
