If I understand this chapter right in 2 Corinthians Chapter 1:8-9, I'm thinking Paul is explaining to the Church followers in Greece that God allowed him to understand the severity of the situation in Asia, and allowed Paul to know that instead of trusting in his own instincts, it was best to rely on God. He also thanked them for their prayers. Go to God in prayer as he can deliver from death, and his powers are greater than ours. I'm never sure if I'm discerning the Old Testament right at all. Any input is helpful. Thank you. Have a great Sunday, and the link below is open for your scripture sharing.

What a great verse to accompany your photo of fallen leaves.
ReplyDeletePaul certainly had his thinking on God's deliverance clear as a bell. It often does not look like we thought it would, and I love how he thinks about it in past, present, and future.
Paul helps us keep our eyes on the Lord - for He has, He is, and He will - deliver us. Have a blessed Sunday.
ReplyDeleteI often think about the words from the verse that Joanne mentioned above-He has delivered us, He is delivering us, He will deliver us-Jesus came so we could live in freedom and wholeness in our innermost being!
ReplyDeleteI re-read this verse several times and found such encouragement. We HAD the death sentence within us, but for those who are in Christ Jesus, that death sentence has been removed and indeed we will be raised up to live with Jesus in Heaven. Oh what amazing love!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Paul is reiterating that His strength comes from the Lord alone.
Thanks for sharing!
I love how Paul can give and take encouragement from even the most dreadful circumstances! He talks about how bad things were for the Christians - they were hard-pressed, suffering beyond what they thought they could endure, and near death, BUT they were not defeated because they still trusted God. And God delivered them!! If our God can do that, He can surely save us from our troubles as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing that scripture. It reminds us that in the worst of times God will not leave us alone. As for the old testament, we had a pastor who was a
