Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Psalm 36:5 NIV
In Bible times, poeple often studied the sky. Looking up at the heavens reminded them of God and His mighty wonders. A rainbow was God's sign to Noah that a flood would never again destroy the earth. God used a myriad of stars to foretell Abraham's abundant family, and a single star heralded Christ's birth.
The theme of the heavens traverses the scriptures from beginning to end. The Bibles's first words say: In the beginning God created the heavens. The psalmist David shows God's greatness in comparison to them: the heavens declare the glory of God. And in the New Testament, Jesus describes the end times saying, There will be signs in the sun, moon and stars...At that time [people] will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Some of God's greatest works have happened in the sky.
This immense space that we call sky is a reflection of God's infinite love and faithfulness. It reaches far beyond what one can see or imagine, all the way to heaven. Too often jobs, maintaining households, parenting, and other tasks keep us from looking up. So take time today. Look up at the heavens, and thank God for His endless love.

Sharing with these link ups:
For the last year, I have been watching the sky at the same time each morning at one spot in our yard. I have been totally amazed most mornings and am always reminded of our faithful and constant God.
ReplyDeleteI am just coming off a little project of welcoming the light each morning of advent, and the sky looks a little different every day. Amazing beauty, a gift from God!
ReplyDeleteHow did we get out of the habit of sky-watching? I saw the "Christmas star" (Jupiter and Saturn) this year, as well as shooting stars the week before. God's love is as big and beautiful as the sky!
ReplyDeleteThe skies and all in them truly do testify to God's greatness and creativity. I'm curious--is the linkup only open for a day? I don't usually post on Sunday until evening, and the last two weeks, the linky has been closed by then. When do you usually open it?
ReplyDeleteThe sky shows God's greatness and love beyond our imagination.
ReplyDeleteI love watching the sky, and just as you've reminded us, it is a reminder of God's faithfulness.
