Sunday Scripture Blessings 11 12 17

Matthew 1:1-16
Joseph ~ descendent of Abraham, Jesse, and King David.
Joseph ~ husband of Mary, Mother of Jesus
14 generations Abraham to David
14 generations David to exile to Babylon
14 generations exile to the Messiah
Born in Bethlehem in Judea. Mary and Joseph take Jesus and escaped to Egypt for fear of King Herod. After Herod death, Mary and Joseph go to Israel, but for fear of Herod's son, they go to Galilee to Nazareth.  And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet, "Out of Egypt I called my son."

When I use to read the genealogy of Jesus, I had no clue. But, now after reading through the Bible, and I am re-reading Matthew, which starts with the genealogy of Jesus, I was 'like, wow, I really do recognize these names'. How much more interesting the Bible becomes when we study in-depth. It is like reading a very interesting novel.

As we head into Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays, I will be reading the New Testament again to relive the birth of Jesus. (The story that never gets old). Joseph and Mary's story. When reading His story, it is always bittersweet to me. We love innocent babies and the imagine of that sweet child, and his life because we are on the back side of his story. It elates and also saddens at the same time. When reading it, I root every time for a different ending. I root for understanding of the man who walked this earth among men. I'm heartened because I know that baby is in control. He is IMMANUEL ~ GOD WITH US.

I look forward to the Scripture Blessings and hope you will be blessed by what other's share. Thank you for linking. You can now link from Instagram, it says on the Inlinkz site.

  1. Which version are you using to read through the Bible this time? I'm trying to pick one...

    1. Have you ever tried the Narrated Bible? It's in chronological order, so in Exodus if Moses or Miriam prayed a Psalm, that Psalm appears in the place of Exodus where they would have said it. Paul's letters are woven through Acts when his journeys are talked about, etc. It has a daily plan for reading through it in a year.

    2. I have several versions. I use the KJV, the NIV AMP Parallel Bible as well as others. I like the Bible Gateway online because you can compare side by side and then clip what you want to my One Note software and use if want with journaling. There is also eSword if you've heard of it to download with different versions that sometimes I read from because can also use on tablet or phone. But basically, right now I mostly read from the KVJ and NIV and put notes there that I want to keep or journal in the NIV Journaling Bible.
The Narrated Bible Debbie mentions sounds interesting. My grandson laughs because every time I go to a Thrift shop, I look for versions of the Bible. He always says, grandma you already have Bibles...why do you want more. I just like to see the different versions. I just recently bought the NIV and AMP at Ollies (a store here that sells Bibles at a better price than most stores and they're new). I keep looking for the Classic edition of the AMP that Elizabeth references, but that one seems hard to find. The AMP I have is a newer version. Not sure all this helps. If you don't have the eSword software, check it out. It is a free download with some free versions.

  2. I love how God's Word becomes more clear each time we read it. No matter how familiar I think I am with it, He shows me new things every time.

    1. So true. So many things I found were more clear and some I had misconceptions about when I read. Some of the stories are so interesting. Others tedious, but I assume there is a reason for the history of it. :)
      Thanks for visiting.

  3. Genealogy always reminds me of how precious we each are to God. And yes, He is with each of us. Immanuel.

    1. So many times, I would think that I'm going to read the Bible in its entirety and would start, but the genealogy would get gruesome so I didn't go far. I was happy to find a reading plan that helped, and put my reading in sections so I wasn't reading but few chapters at a time and doing the S.O.A.P. method and I also would write so that helped. But, as you say, genealogy does explain so many things in the Bible and helps to know a timeline.
      Thanks for visiting. :)

  4. As a genealogy nut, I find the genealogy of Jesus to be so fascinating. If any of us had designed His earthly lineage, there are surely people we would have left out. But each and every one was included for a reason. His earthly ancestors are proof of God's faithfulness, love and forgiveness!

    1. True, the genealogy is more indepth than I would have done, I'm sure. As I have done some genealogy of my family, it is so interesting to see and think about those that came before. I still need to get a better overview of it all and the people and their stories I sometimes get mixed up.

      Thanks for visiting.

  5. Reading the whole of the Bible really changes your perspective doesn't it? You can't appreciate the NT genealogies without reading the Old Testament.

    1. Agree. It seems that most of my early life, the NT people were the ones most introduced since we were after the death and resurrection and with the holidays. But, when I did read the OT stories and the references of what and who was to come, it was so interesting. It also helps with the history of our world and the countries that play a part even today.

      Thank for your visit.

  6. I must admit I have a hard time reading through the genealogy. Today I was reading through some of Luke and something came up where I figured out some of it though and it was like a light bulb went off in my head.

    1. I keep thinking I will do a timeline of the characters and who belongs to who for a better overview of them all, but then I get busy and it is tabled. It is nice now though since I have read more to know some of them. I'm terrible at a quiz on the Bible though. :)

  8. A lovely way to prepare for the season of Advent. The genealogy of Jesus has always been fascinating to me. It has people in it that were looked upon as questionable (Rahab) and drives home the point that if they were good enough to be a descendent of Jesus, there's hope for the rest of us! I hope you have a wonderful week. xoxo
