Sunday Scripture Blessings 10 22 17

Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all. Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things, put on CHARITY, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the PEACE OF GOD rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be THANKFUL. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Colossians 3:11-17 KJV

In my reading through the Bible, I have finished this Summer. I started in 2014 so it took me all this time reading daily. The group I started with suggest reading only one chapter a day. So now, I have started back through, but this time I'm using my Daily Wisdom for Women that I had purchased in 2014 and did some with but than abandoned that to just read from my Bible. All the Bible chapters are from KJV, but with this, I am reading more than one chapter a day from the Old Testament and then one from the New as well as there is Proverbs to read. I think with this read through, I will understand more this time around and have better discernment...hopefully. I also use Matthew Henry online as well as my Bible Dictionary and Concordance. May I ask, is there some that you use that is a help other than Matthew Henry?

I look forward to your sharing of a Sunday Scripture Blessing. Thank you to all who stop by as it is encouragement more than you may know.

  1. Such wise words out of Colossians today - to go along with a completely peaceful photo. I've been using a chronological Bible reading plan that I find especially helpful and also include a Psalm and a reading from the New Testament. I have to confess a special love for Matthew Henry, as that was the first commentary I ever owned way back when.

    1. Hi Julie...Happy Sunday and nice to see your visit. Thank you for input on Matthew Henry. I had never known which to use, but found him online when wanting clarification of a scripture I was reading. :)

  2. I have read through the bible in a year with the second formula you mentioned..Old testament, new testament, and some Psalms or Proverbs. I enjoyed it very much. I'm not sure I would enjoy the chapter a day as some of the chapters in the old testament are rather repetitive.

    1. So agree that some were repetitive. I should have added that with that group, it was the S.O.A.P. method so with the reading, we were to write out our thoughts, interpretations for our life, and pray. Also, there was Bible Journaling, but agree...on some, it was tedious and could not wait to get through the whole book of scriptures. :)

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. Enjoyed seeing your comment.

  3. I've read the Bible through several different ways, but I think the OT play NT + Proverbs/Psalms each day was my favorite.

    1. Hi Jamie...thanks for visiting and leaving a hello comment. I'm hoping this time through that I will retain more of what I've read. In all my years, I've sat down to read the Bible, but without a plan and of course, it didn't work. I gave up. With this time, it is nice to have an over-view of what the Bible is trying to say to us as Christians. I understand so much more than just what I'd heard all those years in Church with just a snippet of scripture here and there with a sermon and actually sometimes no order to things. I think this second time around, hoping for more retaining of what I've read and more clarification.

Have a great Sunday and week.

  4. What a wonderful sentiment..especially for the times we live in right now. I can't help but think if everyone adopted this way of living, we'd have much less conflict and trouble within our nation, and the world. But, this side of heaven, that will never be the case. All I can do is try and make sure I'm not contributing to the vitriol that appears on a daily basis. Our church is going through the beatitudes and they parallel this passage beautifully. Lovely and true thoughts....always. xoxo
