Angel Craft

For those who love crafts...these were so simple and easy to make. Made these probably going on approx. 20 plus years ago and they're still hanging in there.

Materials needed:

1 Styrofoam Ball for head
1 Styrofoam Cone for body
Gauze for gown cut into a strip the length to cover her completely
2 White Chenille Stem for Halo and arms
Ribbon
Rubber Band
Piece of wax paper to stand the angel on while glued gown is drying

  • Glue the Styrofoam ball to the tip of the cone
  • Stick piece of chenille into each side of the cone, glue, and bend to form arms and twist at front as if hands together.
  • Cut a strip of gauze long enough to cover the complete angel front to back including the head cone.
  • Soak the strip of gauze you will be using for the gown in white glue soaking it pretty good. I used regular glue and it dries clear.
  • While wet, drape it over the angel covering the complete angel from front to back over the head.
  • Use a rubber band around the neck area to form the gauze to the neck area.
  • Tie Ribbon around the waist area to form as a belt
  • Form her gown how you like with some flowing on the floor.
  • Let dry thoroughly.
  • Cut some gauze wings (I don't still have the template, but you can find some around the web or just form your own wings).
  • Glue the wings to the back of the angel
  • Form a halo and glue to top of the head by sticking a bit glued into the ball so it stands above the head

I made two. The size of the Angel will be based on the size of the cone you buy.

Enjoy!!

Christmas Scribbles ~ Repost

Reposting one of my blogs from 2010. Still true each Christmas. :)

I still find at my golden age that Christmas is such a magical time of year. The anticipation of the coming holidays, the cooking, the children coming home, the complete package is what the anticipation is all about. I still get the excitement of a little girl.

I’m among those that love the shopping and wrapping. Each wrapped package is a masterpiece when you add the purchased or handmade bows and adornments. Once the packages are wrapped and arranged under the tree, each represents all the memories you had of that person while picking out their present. I love the memories that conjure as I shop to pick out the present. Perhaps it is memories from childhood when buying a gift for a sibling or memories of the young or grown children. All the memories as I wrap and add
a bow are from life experiences that we have shared or as a parent were able to pass onto children are a wonderful present to myself as well.

My wish is that all children and adults could have a wonderful package of happy and wonderful, memorable memories. Sadly, that is not always the case.

Along with the anticipation of the holidays come dreaded times for some people; especially those who have families and are unable to provide not only Christmas gifts, but a home and living year round. Those who have no family or have lost loved ones. The holidays most likely bring home the sadness and the heartbreak for those people.

As I sit and look at the ornaments on the tree and their wonderful glow from the lights and the colorful ornaments, I reflect on my good fortune and say a prayer of thankfulness and also a prayer for those less fortunate. There are so many good charities out there that try to provide for all, and my prayer is also that no one goes without.

Since the children are grown and with families of their own, we no longer celebrate Christmas by giving presents. We celebrate with spending the day eating good food, playing games (board games along with the Wii games). There are presents under the tree that are for winners of each game. They can go pick an unmarked gift. Sometimes we have a white elephant Christmas, which is fun to see what someone donates. One year we had a garage sale Christmas, and some of the gifts were hilarious.

No doubt though, we always have presents for the little or younger ones who spend some of their evening in this technical day and age tracking Santa’s whereabouts on the computer. Their excitement is amazing to watch as they learn what part of the country Santa is passing over in his sleigh. Their magic is what the Santa part of Christmas is all about.

Since we have a 4 year old grandbabykins living in our house, one of his most fun statements he has made so far this Christmas is that Santa has a list. He has a Good List and a Snotty List.

So you better watch out and you better not pout or according to my grandson, you might just end up on Santa’s Snotty. LOL

Do you have a favorite charity? Mine is usually the Salvation Army because as a youngster they provided our Christmas when my mom, who was a single mom trying raise three little girls, had no resources to provide a Christmas let alone food. They brought it all.

Just a couple of links I found for ideas for charities

The following is a great article at gather.com with some ideas for charity ideas at this time of year.
An article with ideas and tips to remember before giving to charities can be found on ehow.com

You can visit All Things Christmas also for a list of some Christmas charities.

Remember you can always re-gift that new Christmas present you received last year or gift card that you just know you won’t be using to a favorite charity.

Pictorial Tuesday 12 13

We had our first snow. This was early morning while walking the dog. Just a dusting that was gone the next morning. Always no matter the age, it is exciting when the first snow arrives; even moreso when you wake and there it is...Surprise. Also, always helps with the Christmas mood to see the snow.

Christmas is coming and it's coming fast. Week-end after this one is it. Seems impossible we are to December already and Christmas approaching. Is everyone prepared....I'm not really.

Merry Christmas

It's Pictorial Tuesday so share your lovely photos, graphics or just comment. Try to visit others who link up. I've enjoyed meeting some new bloggers each week. Thank you so much to all who participate.

Sunday Scripture Blessings Love Came Down

So close your eyes and share the dream

Let everyone on earth believe

The child was born, the stars shone bright

And love came down at christmas time

And love came down at christmas time

Such a lovely song for Christmas.

Christmas Eve, 2 am
Heavy snow is falling down
And the streets clothed in white
Echo songs that were sung by candlelight

We're alive, we can breathe
But do we really care for this world in need?
There's a choice we must make each and every day

So close your eyes and share the dream
Let everyone on earth believe
The child was born, the stars shone bright
And love came down at christmas time
And love came down at christmas time

So merry christmas everyone
And peace throughout the year
The time has come to celebrate
So let your voices fill the air
Everyone, watch and pray that the sun will shine on a brighter day
Join your hands, lift them high
For this gift of life

When love came down at christmas time
When love came down at christmas time
When love came down at christmas time
When love came down at christmas time

So close your eyes and share the dream
Let everyone on earth believe
The child was born, the stars shone bright
And love came down at christmas time
And love came down at christmas time

You're Next to share a Scripture Blessing or just a hello in the comments. Happy Sunday.

    Advent ~ Peace

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
This was the first registration when Quirinius was governor of Syria.
And all went to be registered, each to his own town.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
to be registered with Mary, his betrothed, who was with child.
And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth.
And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.
And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger."
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!"
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us."
And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger.
And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.
    Luke 2:1-17

    Pictorial Tuesday 12 6

Sharing some snow times with the grandbabykins (of course now that he's in the double digits in age, I should call him grandson, but he'll always be my babykins). No such joy as that of a grandmother. :)

These are from few years back. He use to be with grammy a lot, but as he's gotten bigger and into more activities and with school, he doesn't come hang out and shovel snow like he use to. I miss those younger days.

So far, we haven't had any snow, but I'm sure it won't elude us much longer. :)

Happy Tuesday and time for this week's Pictorial Tuesday. So enjoy seeing the photos, graphics or blogs that you link up or just comments left. It's nice to get to visit each one that participates, and hopefully some have met other photographer/bloggers.

    Sunday Scripture Blessings 12 4

Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering: (for he is faithful that promised)

The week's are flying it seems; for me anyway. We've finished the first week of Advent, the tree is up and decorated. As we wait to celebrate Jesus' Birthday, and of course the fun get together with family and maybe some friends, it is a joyous time. Smiles are everywhere with shoppers, and for a time, moments are lighter, hearts are not as heavy. That is the Love of Christmas. A baby is born, a son is given, and along with his birth comes the gift of Love. Love one Another. That gift has been given and unwrapped so cherish it, and with that gift the promise of forgiveness; once and for all.

It's time again for Sunday Scripture Blessings. Share a blessing either with a blog link or just in the comment section. Each comment left or link is a blessing in letting myself and others come visit and get to know other bloggers.

    Advent ~ Hope Day 3

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively HOPE by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. To an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that fadeth not away reserved in heaven for you who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
    1 Peter 1:3-5

As the trees go up this month and the nativity is placed, among the delight of the Christmas season is the Hope that came as a newborn. It is the month of Jesus' birthday, and as I say Happy Birthday Jesus, I am more pleased that he lives on in the Holy Spirit that abides each day with me. He chose me as he chose every human, even in the times that we are not aware, he loves one and all.

In the past few weeks, with the scars of an election that left many feeling not quite what to think of how the future might be, I can only turn to my trust in the plan of a God who loves all of us. I am saddened by the hurt that is prevalent these days. In my heart, I feel led to believe that things will turn out as they should. As the scripture says, I am rejoicing in the HOPE, and as hard as it may seem, being Patient in whatever tribulation may result, and constant in my prayer for all people in this entire world because of God's love for each and everyone.

My tree is up, but as I was thinking just today, Christmas is about Jesus' birth, but to a mom, the wonder of my Christmases over the years was when little ones were excited about the Christmas morning. Now they are all grown, my excitement level just is not the same for the Christmas season. Jesus is with us always, but how I miss those little ones and the wonder of them.
